I heard this cover of "Let It Be" on WFMU's Bodega Pop show this morning. It's by the Ethiopians, and it's titled "Let It Be Me" on the record sleeve. Maybe that was to throw some lawyers off the scent. Anyway, two things: I quite like reggae versions of hit songs, and the lyrics of "Let It Be" are pretty appropriate for reggae.
Darker Than Blue: Soul From Jamdown 1973 - 1980 is an excellent compilation of U.S. hits redone for a primarily Jamaican audience.
You get "Ain't No Love in the Heart of the City" from Al Brown, "Ain't No Sunshine" and "Is It Because I'm Black?" from Ken Boothe, "It's a Shame" from Alton Ellis, and a bunch more.
