Resumé
The document below is the resumé of David Rhoden. I currently live in New Orleans, Louisiana, and would love to work here, but I can work anywhere— I've been working remote for the past four years. I'm primarily a web developer (front-end and back-end), though I've had roles as diverse as children's book editor and banner animator in the past. While I'm skeptical of the use of generative AI ("Artificial Intelligence") for replacing artist and other creatives, I'm bullish on the use of AI for supplementing the work of web developers like myself. I now use AI for about 80% of my coding, through making good prompts and using the "Plan" mode in Devin (formerly Windsurf— an AI harness that allows me to use a number of LLMs, from which I usually use the second-latest or second-least expensive Anthropic Claude models, and sometimes free models like Devin's SWE model). This is how code is written now. I enjoy seeing code come together quickly, based on my verbal description of what I want the program to do. At the same time, I'm glad I have a lot of experience writing code by hand, because otherwise I wouldn't know if the AI code was good or not. Even with AI, the prompter needs a solid background in how websites and software actually work to create a workable plan for AI to implement. The output from LLMs is frankly amazing, and it comes together so fast, but it still needs human improvement. Maybe the computers will eliminate the need for humans altogether soon, but it hasn't happened yet.
I don't write words with the help of AI models. What you're reading here is entirely human-generated.
I have a law degree, but with the knowledge I gained, I chose not to practice law (dodged a bullet, according to lawyers I've spoken to).
I would be interested in roles other than web developer, such as data analyst roles. I worked for Goldman Sachs and Citibank in the long-ago part of my career, before there was a world wide web, when a modem was rare (and they made more noise than a fax machine), building and maintaining payroll databases and front ends, and assisting consultants with process mapping (building large, exhaustive flowcharts of how transactions flowed through Citibank's Private Bank). It seems that, as AI reduces or eliminates the need for technically-skilled and graphically-aware developers, the need for humans to do the work of analyzing data (or more likely telling AI how to analyze data) will increase. If that's where the work is, that's where I'd like to go.
