Midnight was all right, not really a 7.8. Early Billy Wilder/Charles Brackett script. A somewhat homeless american woman insinuates herself into high society by claiming to be a Baroness, her subterfuge is almost uncovered when, all of a sudden, a Baron appears, to the surprise of all the rich folk. It’s all a kooky mix-up that requires a lot of suspension of disbelief among the characters. Good for chuckles.
The Young Philadelphians was the most lathered-up soap opera I think I’ve ever seen (other than maybe (The Group)[https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0031647], so it was very entertaining. Adam West (Batman in the old TV show) is in it; he’s the scion of a Main Line Philly family of great pretensions. He gets married, obliquely confesses that he’s homosexual, and dies, all on the same evening, and in the first five minutes of the movie (sorry for spoilers). The widow has a baby that she raises as a member of the fancy Main Line family. It’s Paul Newman. There’s that story, and the story of PN’s fancy law career (backstabbing his way up the ladder in spite of his fancy family name), and the story of the woman that got away, and the story of his hard-drinking buddy who gets into some shenanigans that lead to a court-room scene….a lot of stories, all pretty interesting. I liked it a lot.
