David Rhoden

I like the sketches I do while I'm busy doing something else.

doodles David doodled during a Zoom call

I like the expressions and postures I get when I doodle during phone calls and Zoom calls. I feel like my drawing is more natural when I'm not really trying.
When I "sit down to draw", I get frustrated. It's like I need to sneak up on an expression to capture it, like I feel it more than I know it.
My old zine-making buddy Brandon once said I had a knack for gesture; I was pleased by that remark. I hope he was right. I also often feel like my drawing style is too understated. Too fearful, maybe? I draw a lot of people who are afraid. Or they look tentative. Nothing wrong with that. If that's, you know, what I want to draw.
